Merit Roll

Seventh grade is drawing to an end...I can't believe it.  We have 5 more school years with Jourdyn and then she is off to college! WOW! Someone pinch me and wake me up because it all seems like a dream!

Last night my friend Tina told me about the Honors program today.  Jourdyn thought she would sneak one by me and not bring home the invitation to it because "It's just a program and it doesn't matter!"

In our journey to public school, that statement strikes at the heart of the biggest problem that we have had.  Jourdyn used to value her gift and now she sees it as a burden. She doesn't like her Gifted & Talented teacher, her friends that aren't in those classes encourage her to do bad so she can come back to typical courses.  She's gone from winning awards in organization to the complete opposite.  She is a great kid and doing well! We have just struggled to combat the negativity that is coming from somewhere! This idea of it's okay to just squeak by has got to go because just squeaking by is not acceptable! All things, even those that we hate should be done to the best of our ability, as if we are doing them for Christ Himself.

The program was fantastic! I am so proud of Jourdyn! Middle school years are the hardest and most awkward years to go through and she is perservering through it! She made Merit Roll.  I believe she did make Honor Roll one quarter, but was for sure on Merit Roll throughout the year! YAY Jourdyn!!! Jourdyn is coming into her 4th year playing the saxophone next year and I believe her 7th year of piano! We are exploring avenues to promote that talent and gift that God has given her.  I met a woman who gives lessons to girls in Saxophone. Her goal is to teach them an appreciation for music outside of the traditional school band stuff.  Speaking of that...next year Jourdyn will be playing Lady-Ga-Ga for school band.  That one song that goes RA-Ra-whatever-whatever...and I'm ticked! So let's have our 8th graders play a song about gettin' into a bad romance....below are the lyrics...you tell me if they are appropriate for school band.

I want your ugly
I want your disease
I want your everything
As long as it’s free
I want your love
Love love love
I want your love

I want you drama
The touch of your hand
I want your leather studded kiss in the sand
I want your love
Love love love
I want your love

You know that I want you
And you know that I need you
I want it bad
A bad romance

I want your love and
I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
I want your love and
All your lover’s revenge
You and me could write a bad romance

I want your horror
I want your design
‘Cuz you’re a criminal
As long as you’re mine
I want your love
Love love love
I want your love

I want your psycho
Your vertigo shtick
Want you in my rear window
Baby you’re sick
I want your love
Love love love
I want your love

You know that I want you (’Cuz I’m a free bitch baby)
And you know that I need you
I want it bad romance
Your bad romance

I want your love and
I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
I want your love and
All your lover’s revenge
You and me could write a bad romance

Walk walk fashion baby work it
Move that bitch c-razy
Walk walk fashion baby work it
Move that bitch c-razy
Walk walk passion baby work it
I’m a free bitch baby

I want your love
And I want your revenge
I want your love
I don’t wanna be friends

Je veux ton amour
Et je veux ta revenge
Je veux ton amour
I don’t wanna be friends
(Want your bad romance
I want your bad romance)
Want your bad romance!

I want your love and
I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
I want your love and
All your lover’s revenge
You and me could write a bad romance

So I spoke with the Band Director and he said because the lyrics aren't being sang, it's appropriate! UGH!!! In fact, he compared that song to this one...saying that if we don't play Lady Ga-ga then we shouldn't play Louie-Louie.

Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go

Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home

CHORUS

Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.

CHORUS

Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!

GUITAR SOLO

See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again

CHORUS

Let's take it on outa here now
Let's go!!
